Ancestors are our forebears, those that came before us. Ancestor-veneration is a feature of Norse Heathenry, and ancestors are often called upon for guidance, protection, and advice.
Within some Scandinavian Heathen practices, it’s common to consult ancestors first about life-advice or personal problems, with the logic that our ancestors would probably have a better understanding of our immediate lives and our personal circumstances than deities would.
