Overview

Angrboda is a giantess who personifies the emotion of “sorrow.” In the myths, she has three children with LokiHel, Iormungand, and Fenir—who represent the emotions of depression, anxiety, and rage (at least this is the case within the literary traditions; their roles as deities is to help people with these things).

After the Aesir bound Fenrir in the Ironwood, it was supposedly Angrboda who continued to feed him so he would grow in size; an allegory for how rage is fueled by sorrow.
