Overview

In the context of paganism and witchcraft, “blinding” refers to a method of hiding information within a written text, code book, or grimoire. This can be done using metaphors, redactions, code words, ciphers, and other devices meant to obscure the text’s true meaning. Blinding is often employed as a way to keep a written record of information for the initiated to refer to, while hiding critical parts of it from the uninitiated (because they otherwise might misuse it, misinterpret it, or confiscate it).
