Overview

The hamr is part of the multipart soul in Heathenry. It represents our body, which includes both the physical form we have and the “airs” we possess. The hugr, or mind, wears the hamr like a “skin” to walk through life. The hamr is something that exists the same way an ice cube exists; when we die, the hamr vanishes the same way the ice cube vanishes when it melts. What remains is the flowing, non-incorporated hugr. The hugr can then can choose to return to the ancestors, go to the any of the gods’ halls, or be reincarnated.
