Muspelheim (meaning uncertain) is a primordial world like Niflheim made of heat and flame. Fire giants, including the giant Surtr, live in Muspelheim. In the Norse creation myth of the world, Muspelheim was pushed far above Midgard and is kept separate from it via the barrier of the sky. As the sky was being propped up, some sparks escaped Muspelheim, and these were fashioned into the stars.
