Svartalfheim (“world of the black elves”) is the home of the dark elves, who live beneath the earth. Though they’re elves, they are said to be “blacker than pitch” and have a nature quite unlike their light-elf counterparts. The gods visited Svartalfheim to acquire Gleipnir, the fetter made of impossible things that was used to bind Fenrir.
