Overview
UPG, or Unverified Personal Gnosis, describes spiritual insights or beliefs someone gains as a result of personal interaction with deities, spirits, or other supernatural beings; specifically insight or beliefs that can’t verified or corroborated by scholarship, tradition, or accepted religious texts.
UPG often arises over the course of someone “working with” a specific god, spirit, or other beings, and is acquired through vectors such as dreams, trances, divination, and other forms of direct interaction.
UPG is different from a “headcanon” because it’s the result of something experienced, as opposed to something thought about.
When two or more individuals independently acquire the same UPG, then it can be considered SPG, or Shared Personal Gnosis.
