Overview

Uruz (Ur, or Yr) is a rune in the Elder Futhark, the Younger Futhark, and the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc.

Meaning

The auroch is a now-extinct species of cow, from which domestic cattle derived from. Known for its athletic build and prowess, the auroch is symbolic of strength and the force of will. It evokes the concept of the “raging bull” and the energies of this rune are similar.

Uruz is a powerful rune for change and manifestation. It can also be a force for initiation, of diving into something while propelled by the strength of will. It can, however, be reckless energy. Might is only as effective as its temperament. A charging bull accomplishes very little if it has no sense of direction.

Upright

In divination, this rune indicates a force of strength. It may also indicate a challenge or upheaval.

Reversed or in Opposition

In an oppositional position, it can point to recklessness, brutality, or haste. Depending on the context, it may also indicate weakness or a need for gumption.

Use in Bindrunes

In bindrunes, Uruz is used to add strength or driving force behind the spell.
