The Nordic Iron Age is divided up into three different periods:
- The Pre-Roman Iron Age (500 BCE – 0 BCE)
- The Roman Iron Age (1-400 CE)
- The Germanic Iron Age (401-800 CE).
Pre-Roman Iron Age
The Nordic Iron Age began with the introduction of ironworking via the proto-Celtic Hallstatt culture. The Iron Age Norse began to craft wares from iron extracted from bog peat.
